DYSENTERY

Frequent stools might be due to ulceration of the intestines caused by dysentery bacillus or amoeba. Poor hygiene often means contaminated food, water, carriers, flies & infected people spread these infections.

(1) Besides, bacillary dysentery is classified based on the organism found in tests, like Flexur or Shiga. Meanwhile, amoebic dysentery comes from a single-celled protozoan called entamoeba histolytica, which can form small cysts. These cysts can move to the liver and cause liver abscesses.

(2) Symptoms can vary depending on the organism’s strength—diarrhoea with blood and mucus, fever, and sometimes vomiting. If severe, the tongue will dry and fuse, and dehydration will appear. Amoebic dysentery and its issues are common in India.

(3) Entamoeba histolytica lives in humans as an active form that moves around (vegetative) and as a non-moving cystic form. The active forms invade the colon wall, creating ulcers separated by healthy tissue. From the colon, amoebae can travel via the bloodstream to cause liver trouble, known as amoebic hepatitis or abscesses. In the gut’s lumen, amoebae encyst a tough outer layer; these cysts exit with faeces and infect others. Stomach juices destroy swallowed amoebae—however—the cysts survive until they reach the large bowel, where they mature again.

(4) Acute Amoebic Dysentery: It usually starts gradually rather than suddenly, like bacillary dysentery, and has less fever & overall upset. Patients complain of lower belly pain and frequent loose motions with blood & mucus.

(5) Chronic Amoebic Colitis: Some never get acute symptoms but instead slowly feel general bad health; they lose weight, tyre easily, and get irritable. They suffer periodic flare-ups with several loose motions (often in the morning), lots of colic, and gas. Stools typically have mucus but no blood.

Composition: Ferrum phosphoricum 3x, Kalium muriaticum 3x, Kalium phosphoricum 3x & Magnesium phosphoricum 3x equally mixed.

Proven indication of ingredients within their action:

Ferrum phosphoricum is used when stools are watery with/without blood and undigested food at dysentery's first stage, with fever. Inflammation in a low grade might also be present.

Kalium muriaticum: Used for clay-coloured, white or slimy stools with/without blood, fatty foods worsen symptoms.

Kalium phosphoricum: Helps when stools consist of bright blood—the patient may become delirious, and abdomen swells—stools sometimes look like rice water.

Magnesium phosphoricum: Known for relieving flatulent colic pain—it’s an antispasmodic—is relieved by pressure & warmth too.

Contraindications: None! It can be used along with other medicines & measures.

How to use it?

• For adults: Four tablets taken 3 or 4 times daily.
